At the root of each of the three million reasons for penning a memoir is the desire to more deeply know ourselves and to understand what makes us tick. Inevitably, that desire starts us on a long road to the past through which we not only re-engage with our families of origin and uncover surprising bits of family lore, but also discover that our ancestors still live and thrive inside us. In this class, we’ll explore various ways of traveling home––from writing prompts that take us down memory’s spiral lane to practical strategies for gathering and processing family information and artifacts. We will also briefly discuss possible real-world travel to homes, near or far, and how to connect with our ancestry. After learning these strategies and ways to connect, return to Traveling Home, Again on February 21st and take your writing and discoveries a step further.
