When we write a memoir, we move deeper into ourselves and farther down the road into our pasts where we inevitably run into the family members who have shared parts of the journey. In this class, we’ll use writing prompts and discussion to engage memories about our families of origin and to help us recall bits of family lore that reconnect us with our ancestors (both living and deceased). We’ll start by exploring any family material you’ve brought with you and learn new strategies for discovering more information. If you’ve already begun a memoir, feel free to bring up to a single page (double-spaced) so we can discuss how to enliven the journey in your writing. Be sure to check out Traveling Home: Memoir’s Enlightening Path to the Ancestral Past, January 17th. It is not required for this workshop but will provide you two sessions to explore memoir and your past even further.
